PACKARD

COBRA - AUTOMATIC GAMMA COUNTER

STANDARD FEATURES:

• Automatic computer-controlled bench top gamma counting system: Five or ten independent 1.5 inch NaI (TI) through-hole Constant Quantaฎ detectors and a proprietary task controlled operating environment provide efficient, uninterrupted sample processing.

• Automatic Instrument Performance Assessment (IPA11: Automatically monitors detector background, efficiency, resolution and Chi-square performance. Automatically evaluates monitored data for quality assurance and provides out-of- control warnings. Provides QC documentation for regulatory agencies and GLP purposes.

• Intelligent sample changer: Holds 750 sample tubes of 10 to 14 mm diameter or 1000 sample tubes of 10 to 12 mm diameter in 50 removable cassettes compatible with most centrifuges. Optional adapters are required for tubes ≤70 mm in length.

• Adjustable sample position: Sample elevation controlled in steps to provide four protocol-selectable counting positions for optimal counting efficiency of any sample volume.

• Positive cassette identification: Each of the 50 cassettes may be permanently labeled with a binary code label which is read by the instrument prior to processing the contained samples. The correct sequence of cassettes can be verified against a user defined list. The user is notified if the sequence is incorrect via the printout. The cassette identification can also be added to the report printout for positive identification purposes.

• Two simultaneous counting regions: Two regions can be pre-selected for the following radionuclides: 1l, 57Co, or 51Cr, or the region can be set manually from 15-1 000 KeV with energy discrimination. Energies up to 2000 KeV can be counted with the upper level disabled.

• Decay correction to any date and time: Corrects for tracer decay in both counting regions.

• SpectraView™ live spectrum display: Counting spectrum can be selected for display on high resolution CRT, in linear or logarithmic energy scale, and can be plotted on printer.

• Automatic normalization: Accomplished using a self-normalization cassette for each defined radionuclide in any or all of the four elevator positions. Each bank of five detectors can be automatically normalized using a single source or multiple sources. Waste radioactivity can be used for 1251 normalization.

• Detector disable: Detectors can be individually deactivated without disabling the entire detector bank.

• Crosstalk reduction: The influence of higher energy radionuclides on neighboring detectors is virtually eliminated for isotopes with energies <500 KeV by a staggered configuration which allows a minimum of 18 mm of lead shielding around each detector.

• Spillover compensation: Corrects for radionuclide interference between two counting regions. Spill-up and spill-down correction provides maximum freedom in selecting these regions.

• Automatic power failure recovery: Assay in progress automatically resumes after power failures of up to 72 hours.

• MS-DOS compatible computer: The standard Cobra has a built-in 50 MHz 80486SLC based microprocessor with 2 MB RAM, 420 MB or larger hard disk, and MS-DOS operating system. A SVGA color monitor, serial and parallel communications ports, and 3.5 inch 1.44 MB floppy disk drive are included.

• Alphanumeric keyboard: Standard IBM AT (101-key) compatible keyboard on pull-out shelf.

• Printer: Bidirectional dot matrix printer provides assay results and plots high resolution graphics; 132-column printing width in condensed printer format. (U.S. only)

• Date and time: Provides real time display and time-stamped printouts. Battery supported.

• Automatic background correction: Automatically subtracts instrument background count for each sample when requested. Complete background spectra are stored, and a spectral stripping technique assures accurate correction in any region.

• PrioStat interrupt counting: A series of STAT samples can be processed according to any of the stored assay protocols.

• Multi-user capability: Stores 60 assay protocols and allows the system to be used for RiaSmart data management without interrupting the automatic sample processing of other users.
